2. Being designed and built mostly by the Geeks - hardware is usually more dependable and reliable to last much longer than the one made for consumer market.
3. Hardware kept current and replaced if necessary, firmware is updated more frequently making the whole system secure and current.
4. System is cheaper on a long run, no subscription required. No proprietary software or hardware required for IAoT to function.
5. Personal data is as secure as the whole home network.
6. If built on Open Source components - Community support is usually comparable or better than Commercial support.

Besides all of the above, personal satisfaction is something one can not buy!There's no place like ~
